This spring, 11 Batavia students were each honored with scholarships from the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence on behalf of Matthew J. Nena, Megan Reed, Sam Rotolo, Thomas L. Schmitz, William Freiburger, Molly Mae Vance, Michael A. Bonifas, Bulldog Legacy Award and Michael Heaton. Scholarships were awarded based on community service, school related activities, and academic status.
Matthew J. Nena Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
Scholarship Winners: Lily Mamminga and Sophia Brummel
The scholarship is designed to honor college bound graduating seniors who have overcome a difficult situation in their life either academically, athletically, or personally.
Megan Reed Scholarship - $1,000
Scholarship Winner: Abigail Arends
Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in communication.
Sam Rotolo Scholarship - $1,000
Scholarship Winner: Nicole Wasmund
Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in education at a four-year college or university.
Thomas L. Schmitz Scholarship - $1,000
Scholarship Winner: Riley Polaski
Awarded to a student who appreciates this community and will make an effort to also give back.
William Freiburger Scholarship - $2,000 each
Scholarship Winners: Ella Peterson and Allison Hayden
Awarded to a student who embodied William’s love for others and serving community.
Molly Mae Vance Scholarship - $1,000
Scholarship Winner: Rose Davis
Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in public service.
Michael Arthur Bonifas Scholarship - $1,500
Scholarship Winner: Rabia Jafari
Awarded to a first generation college student.
Michael Heaton Memorial Music Scholarship - $1,000 in guitar lessons and a guitar
Scholarship Winner: Adrian Simon
Awarded to a Batavia Jr. High/High School student who demonstrates similar qualities to those which Michael possessed.
Bulldog Legacy Award - $500
Scholarship Winner: Emmanuel Padilla
Awarded to a Batavia High School football player with an exceptional work ethic.
